LG Releases
3D Computers, Monitors, Projectors, and
Viewing Glasses
July 22,2010
In light of the box office success of 3D movies like Avatar, LG Electronics is releasing a line-up of 3D
computers, 3D monitors, and 3D projectors, although shipment plans for the US and many other parts of the world
have yet to be unveiled.
At a press conference in Korea's capital city of Seoul, Korea-based LG announced the availability in its home
country of four new 3D PC models, the 23-inch W63D desktop 3D PC monitor, and the CF3D-projector, according to
accounts from Asian Web sites and international wire services.
To view 3D content on the 3D enabled PC, though, you'll need the same kind of 3D glasses handed out in theaters
for 3D films or when watching 3D TV.
3D desktop computer monitor offers "G-Mode" gaming
option
LG's W63D 3D PC monitor reportedly offers a 120Hz refresh rate to minimize flicker when used with the 3D
glasses, along with a 70,000:1 contrast ratio. The monitor also offers a "G-Mode" gaming option, for
intelligently controlling brightness to reduce eyestrain.
LG's initial 3D PC line-up consists of two desktop 3D PC models and two 3D notebooks, according to a
report in the Korea Times.
Slated for availability in Korean stores this week, the 3D notebooks start at 1.6 million won ($1,316) while
the desktop PCs start at 2.2 million won, says the Korea-based JoongAng Daily.
Suggested retail pricing for the 3D PC is about 20 percent higher than for comparable 2D products, said Park
Hyung-bong, the head of LG's PC business division, speaking at the press conference in Seoul this week.
One of the 3D notebooks provides a 15.6-inch 3D ready display, an Nvidia GeForce GT335M graphics card, 1 GB of
memory, and an Intel Core i7 processor, according to Reuters.
3D projector ships with multiple 3D glasses
For its part, the new CF3D projector comes with six pairs of 3D glasses. The new machine is touted as able to
project pictures of up to 200 inches in size with a 3D brightness rating of 1250 ANSI lumens (2500 in 2D) and a
7000:1 contrast ratio.
LG has already come to market with 3D TV s, in addition to Samsung, Panasonic, Sony, and others. Yet LG and
Samsung, another Korea-based company, seem to the biggest pioneers in 3D PCs so far among the major
manufacturers. Samsung has also displayed 3D PC technology, but its 3D products have yet to be released.
Meanwhile, though, also this month, small boutique 3D PC maker AVADirect announced the addition of Nvidia 3D
Vision to its gaming line-up just as ASUS announced its own 3D capable, 120Hz monitor.

More 3D content for use on 3D Computers, 3D Notebooks and 3D Laptops is still needed
LG is targeting its new 3D computer products at content such as movies, games and educational lectures which is
specifically designed for 3D viewing
However, analysts such as IDC's Bryan Ma have pointed to the creation of more 3D content as imperative to the
wider adoption of 3D.
Park told journalists at the press conference in Seoul that LG hopes to "further expand 3D for PCs" by
partnering with content providers.
LG's new 3D computer products are slated for availability in Korean stores this week. Within the month, LG
plans to release 3D monitors to Europe and Russia and 3D notebooks to South America, the Middle East and
Africa, according to Park.
